Leon County Environmental Management Permitting Detailed Checklist

ADDITIONAL MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LANDSCAPE AREAS

  1. Grass cover or other ground cover not occupied by other landscape material.
  2. Mulch to minimum of 2" for all planting areas.
  3. Uncomplimentary buffer prevails over perimeter landscape requirements.
  4. All uses or activity excluded from uncomplimentary buffers except for underground utilities, above-ground utilities and grass ditches with back slopes no steeper than 3:1.
  5. Plant material for uncomplimentary buffer strips has height of 30" and minimum crown of 24" and capable of achieving minimum height of 8'.
  6. 10-4.349 REFORESTATION
    1. Minimum of 40 trees for each acre of developed area
    2. Credit for preserved trees allowed (75% CPZ)
  7. 10-4.350 STORMWATER MANAGEMENT FACILITY LANDSCAPING
    1. Visual screen around entire perimeter of any detention or retention facility along with fence.
    2. Landscape area credit when wet detention facility is landscaped slopes 5:1 or flatter, wetland species and integrated design.
  8. PLANT MATERIAL STANDARDS FOR ALL LANDSCAPED AREAS
    1. Florida number 1 or better plant material
    2. Natural and vegetated portions of site must be left in healthy state for credit toward 25% landscape area or natural area requirements (urban forest, native forest, CPZ of patriarch oak or specimen tree).
    3. Trees - minimum height 8' width 2" caliper except when 3 or fewer are required minimum height of 12' width 3" caliper required - mature crown at least 20'
    4. Minimum planting area 133 sq. ft. around tree
    5. Minimize conflicts with utilities
    6. At least 5 different species provided when more than 150 caliper inches of tree material is required (10% minimum for a species).
    7. Shrubs minimum height of 18" with minimum spread of 15'
    8. Placements of shrubs - minimum spacing 2' and maximum of 5'
      1. 15" - 23" of spread on 3' centers
      2. 23" + of spread on 5' centers
      3. Vines 30' in length within one year
    9. Ground cover planted to provide 75% coverage within one year Synthetic plant material - no credit
    10. Mulches 2" in depth required
  9. ARCHITECTURAL PLANTERS
    1. Minimum planting area for shrubs, 10 sq. ft. and minimum depth of 18"
    2. Minimum planting area for minor trees, 25 sq. ft. and minimum depth of 4'
    3. Minimum planting area for shade trees, 100 sq. ft. and minimum depth of 4'
    4. Tree pit minimum of 3' by 3' opening which provides an unconfined growing space and suitable rooting environment
    5. MISCELLANEOUS
      1. Irrigation system or readily available water supply located within 100'. Irrigation methods to be used and location of water supply indicated on landscape plan.
    6. LANDSCAPE EXEMPTIONS
        individual mobile homes, detailed single-family units, individual 2 family units and bona fide agricultural uses
