In 1995, Leon County and the City of Tallahassee took a
collective approach to resolve addressing issues by forming the Addressing Steering
Committee. Some of these issues are duplicate addresses, odd and even
discrepancies, and non-sequential order of numbers. This committee aims to
provide a complete set of addresses for Leon County and the City of Tallahassee
and develop a uniform and compatible system for
users of this information.
Leon County Growth and Environmental Management and
Tallahassee-Leon County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) would like citizens to know that issues are being corrected
and ask for compliance when new addresses are assigned. The long-term effects
of this project will benefit the entire community. Although addresses are being changed, the Computer Aided
Dispatch System, which emergency responders use to respond to calls, cross
references addresses so they are able to respond without being impeded by the
address changes.
The rearrangement of addresses is a collaborative effort
between the County and City governments. The County will send letters to those
who own property on Capital Circle and will be affected by the project this
spring (2007). In some cases, resurveying make take place due to the
construction on Capital Circle. Addressing issues are broken into four quads:
Capital Circle NE, Capital Circle NW, Capital Circle SE, and Capital Circle SW.
The total possible address changes for the Capital Circle project is 61, and the
total is subject to change. For more information, contact Lisa
Oglesby with Leon County Growth and Environmental Management at 606-1300.
